Small Paintings at the Eclipse Mill

Keith Shaw of the Berkshire Eagle has written a nice review of the Small Works Show at the Eclipse Mill in North Adams where my studio is. The focus of the show is moderately priced original art, perfect for gift-giving this holiday season. Small paintings, original paper craft, sculpture and woodcuts are just some of the offerings. I have ten paintings in the show which are on view Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 through December 21st. Everything is framed and ready for "cash and carry." Please drop by, or contact me for a private tour of the show during the week.

Parade Puppets
Many thanks to Doc Radin for these photos of the puppets I designed and built for the Fall Foliage Parade last weekend. These (and a couple more still underway in my studio) can be seen in the Drury Drama Team's upcoming production this November.

catching up with some recent studies
Hey folks -- it's been a busy and productive month since things finished up with the puppetry gig. Lots of paintings and works in progress on the go! Also, I started a new figure group that meets on Thursdays from 7 to 10 . . . click here for full details if you'd like to join us -- everyone is welcome! A few of us have been working in oils on the long pose. Here's two studies using a raw umber wipe-out (reductive) method.

And some other small studies that are worth sharing . . . playing with reflective surfaces . . .

Puppets! Puppets! Puppets!

Hey Everyone! Here's picts of my latest project for the Clark Art Institute's Stone Hill Center opening. Big floaty Koi and Crane puppets. Each one is hand batiked — the patterns are applied with melted wax and then the fabric is dyed. The wax resists the dye and voila. Interiors are constructed of foam and carbon graphite rod. I made four, total . . . about a month in the making. So come see them on Family Day, July 27th at the Sterling & Francine Clark Art Institute.
